Acceptance and Committment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT, is a process-based therapy focused on the idea that you function best when you are open, present, and flexible. In ACT, you learn to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations. This allows you to create a rich and purpose-filled life, turning toward the things that matter and getting off the cycle of avoidance.
ACT focuses on several key skills and processes:
- Mindfulness
- Acceptance
- Defusion from thoughts
- Self-in-context and perspective-taking
- Values
- Committed action
ACT develops psychological flexibility and is a form of behavioral therapy that combines mindfulness skills with the practice of self-acceptance. I combine ACT with self-compassion work to help you truly begin the work of knowing yourself, accepting yourself, and coming home to yourself.
